stash

Waited all day for my friendly UPS guy to deliver my fabric!  I am unable to complete my Tuula quilt without my order of K Fassett dots for binding!  Sometimes I envy those with huge stashes that they can pull from – this is not my reality.

I’ve given a lot of thought to stashes of fabric and what they represent and how they make me feel.  On the one hand, how magnificent it would be to have a queens’s ransom of fabric – one that I could dance throughout, throw myself onto, clutter complete my entire studio shelves with their rich glory.  On the other hand, huge amounts of unused fabric make me nervous.  They make me anxious and jittery.  They make me want to call in sick to the day job so that I can stay home and fabric-sit them.  They make me feel inadequate.  These are not positive emotions.  2014 is already beginning to shape up as the year that I redefine my quilting life.  It’s all good. Harley discovered my garden gloves!  He must know that I am pouring over the seed catalogues and having inner debates over the vegetable garden!DSCN7131 This is Sarah’s free pattern (Sew what Sherlock) that I worked on for a bit today.  I really like that she had the courage to list this pattern in all of its authenticity.  She did not pirate it, nor did she rename it and attach a fee to it.  She simply shared it with the quilt community.  I have a lot more to say about this, but I’ll save it – or as my friend Kathleen is fond of saying to me – “ZIP IT!”  I have strong opinions that do not make me popular.  Oh well.DSCN7129

I am trying to finish that backing for Scott’s quilt.  I’d love to present it to him for Valentine’s Day, but who knows?  The children are coming for dinner tomorrow and bringing the Matriarch, so I’ll have to clean in the morning!  I hope that you are having a splendid weekend!

I feel like too much fabric is like not enough. It seems the more I have, the less I know what to do with it. And then the scraps! So MANY SCRAPS! I went nuts on Black Friday (I was in the states for the first time and got 800$ worth of fabric for a little over 250$!!!) so I stocked up. Now it’s everywhere… Now I’m stressing about organisation. But man! Are they pretty!!! 🙂

Your block is very pretty in soft colors and a gorgeous print. Is this the start of another delightful quilt in the making? Have fun 🙂
